Context

Itinerants are retailers who have no specific selling point and sell their products by traveling to different locations. They move from one location to another looking for customers. They are also referred to as mobile vendors.

Challenges

In order to understand the challenges experienced by mobile vendors selling perishables from rural regions, I undertook travels to several villages within Bhopal to find these vendors. Their reluctance to converse with strangers hampered efficient data gathering, as it made the process rather arduous.

Quantitative research

In qualitative research, I interviewed around 10 itinerant retailers of different goods seller, this research helped me to understand the needs, interests, and pain points of the user

Pain points of the retailers

Online platforms affecting his business, especially after COVID. Sometimes people who take credit, not repays or delayHave to pay fuel cost no matter how much income they gain daily Daily inventory is picked up randomly, depending upon common items sold.

Problem statement

After doing primary and secondary research from customer & retailer side, I came to specify a problem scenario

Rural people are very much dependent on those retailers for non-perishable goods, however they dont have information about the schedule of retailers hence, they cant get goods on time. While retailers have overburden of things to be taken care (eg. inventory, credit, raw material, etc.) this affects their business, therefore many of them can’t sustainably run their business.

Ideating multiple solutions
Design concept

Scenarios of features

Business promotion: On initial days retailers have to struggle to promote their business this feature allows them to share business card to their contact.
